Shihan Tyree became interested in martial arts at the age of nine while attending grade school. He first began training at Pagoda Martial Arts under the instruction of Hanshi Dr. Mills and Kyoshi Byron Lytle. Shortly after enrollment he was transferred to another school called BHAMS. While his studies continued, he competed in local tournaments and performed exceedingly well over the years as an under belt competitor. During high school he prepared himself for his black belt testing. A couple years after high school, in 2003, he received hist 1st degree black belt. Doors began to open for him in the world of martial arts; he was asked to join Midwest Storm United, the national karate team. While competing nationally he won several grand champion titles and consistently placed in many other tournaments over the years. Two years later, he was promoted to 2nd degree black belt in 2005 under the school's new name Total Package Martial Arts, under the instruction of Kyoshi Byron Lytle. Then he was accepted as a member into the Midwest Martial Arts Association. During that time he was also asked to become a teacher at two of his instructor's schools.Outside of the dojo, he was attending school to become an automotive, diesel & industrial technician at U.T.I. While in school he was promoted to 3rd degree black belt. Shortly after that he graduated school and continued his life's journey. Over the years Sensei Tyree continued to study the arts. He took up boxing and Brazilian Ju-Jitsu and began to blend them all together. He has many more goals to conquer.Over the next several years of teaching and being consistently active, he was promoted to 4th degree black belt. Sensei Tyree's devotion and tireless efforts have led him to become highly respected among his peers as a passionate martial artist, a role model and a man of integrity. As far as the future he dedicates his passion and love to create smart, positive, strong men and women.

What would you do if you found yourself faced with a violent or other dangerous situation? Would you run? Would you comply with your attacker's demands? Would you defend yourself? No two situations are the same, but you CAN develop a plan to help you survive an attack. After all, YOU are the one who is ultimately responsible for your personal safety. The class is not a martial arts program, but rather a mixture of risk awareness education and physical defense tools that are found to be most effective in a physical encounter. Students are given the opportunity to engage in discussion and participate in physical defense training that is specifically tailored to meet their abilities and needs. We challenge society to evolve into an existence where violence is not an acceptable part of daily life.

The denotation of confidence is the “belief in oneself and one’s powers or abilities.” Everybody is lacking confidence in something; not everyone is perfect. Whether it be giving a speech in front of the class, competing in a large competition, or accepting one’s appearance, people lack the confidence needed to enjoy life. Helen Keller said, “Optimism is the faith that leads to achievement. Nothing can be done without hope and confidence.” This quote is absolutely true because if one does not have confidence they can never achieve or go beyond what they want to do.

In Karate, which is prominent in Shingon Buddhism, so we been told. When in fact it was originated from Africa and the proof is in Kemet(ancient Egypt) on the walls of the pyramids that predates any other nation or culture. "Form is emptiness, emptiness is form itself" we interpreted the "kara" of Karate to mean "to purge oneself of selfish and evil thoughts ... However there are multiple ways & meanings of Karate. Kara= empty, te= hands. Ka= the living spirit within, Ra= God, Te=you; for only with a clear mind and conscience can the practitioner understand the knowledge which he/she receives." Sensei Tyree believed that one should be "inwardly humble and outwardly gentle." Only by behaving humbly can one be open to Karate's many lessons. This is done by listening and being receptive to criticism. He considered courtesy of prime importance. He said that "Karate is properly applied only in those rare situations in which one really must either down another or be downed by him." Sensei Tyree did not consider it unusual for a devotee to use Karate in a real physical confrontation no more than perhaps once in a lifetime. He stated that Karate practitioners must "never be easily drawn into a fight." It is understood that one blow from a real expert could mean death. It is clear that those who misuse what they have learned bring dishonor upon themselves. He promoted the character trait of personal conviction. In "time of grave public crisis, one must have the courage ... to face a million and one opponents." He taught that indecisiveness is a weakness.
